What:
I'm organizing our company's community support for Million Mile Event & Lemon Run. The Million Mile Event (Sept)and the Lemon Run 5k (Nov)are organized through the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. The Million Mile event is the entire month of September and you have to get people signed up on your time to run, bike, walk (or some combo) to help the Foundation collectively reach 1 million miles! One million miles is 40 times around the equator or two round-trips to the moon. But it’s less than five miles for each kid or adolescent who will be affected by childhood cancer this year, worldwide. Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 15 in the United States. The Lemon Run 5k is a run/walk event in November. Each year our culture has been shifting from one of obligation to opportunity in creating a positive impact and incorporating that into their way of life.
Why:
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation has a connection for me because of its cancer research. I know that regardless of the type or form of cancer, the impact of the research on any level for any cancer can have a huge ripple effect in the fight against all cancers. I lost my mother when I was 11 years old in her battle against melanoma.
